ABOUT FRYSKE POINT

Fryske Point Stabyhoun is dedicated to sound breeding practices and the preservation of the Stabyhoun breed. We have two females living with us and going wherever we travel. Our first Staby is named Fryske Point Worth Repeating with the call name of “Echo”. She came into our lives in May of 2004 and has been our guide to owning a Stabyhoun!

Fryske Point is a charter member of a North American breed club called the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association (ASA). We believe in doing intensive puppy rearing, working with them from day 3 with the Super Dog Treatment (http://breedingbetterdogs.com/pdfFiles/articles/early_neurological_stimulation_en.pdf). Then at 6 1/2 to 7 weeks, we do the Volhard P.A.T. evaluation (http://www.volhard.com/puppy/pat.htm) along with the PAWS Working Dog Evaluation (http://www.malinut.com/ref/write/paws/). At this point, we have already been doing clicker training and building the pup's confidence through puzzle solving, agility, and bird training. We use Pat Hastings evaluation of puppy structure (http://dogfolk.com/thehastings.htm) as our guide in the tough job of evaluating a pup's conformation.

We are located in Bluffton, South Carolina, but most of our summers are spent in the Adirondack Park on Chazy Lake in upper NY State.

OUR MISSION

At Fryske Point, our goal is to preserve, protect and promote the health, character, appearance, and general well being of the Stabyhoun, as well as its natural working ability and other unique characteristics of the breed.

We adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Ameri-Can Stabyhoun Association, the only North American “fledgling” of the Dutch Stabij- and Wetterhoun Association. As such, we breed only those Stabyhouns that conform to the official Dutch breed standard as adopted by the Federation Cynologique Internationale, hereafter referred to as the FCI and accepted by the ASA. Our Stabys are evaluated against this Dutch standard by certified Dutch Judges for the breed, flown over to North America for that specific purpose.

In addition to the phenotype evaluation, we also have the hips and elbows certified by an approved agency to guard against the occurrence of dysplasia. The breeds known health issues of epilepsy, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia, heart disease, and neurological problems are still relatively low percentages within the population. Still, we believe in adhering to strict rules to diminish these elements from occurring when using possible carriers.

BREEDING FOR THE FUTURE

At Fryske Point, we believe in breeding only the finest temperaments, as having a best friend and a devoted pet should be the number one consideration for any owner. While maintaining and building our lines is an important goal, we take pride in our dogs being intelligent, and responsive working dogs as well. We want our dogs to be used in the field, or obedience and agility trials whenever possible, to maintain the original working abilities of the Stabyhoun breed. Temperament is an essential part of this working ability and we start work with our pups from the minute they can walk. From 2 weeks of age, we start to build a strong and confident dog with proper socialization of the litter.
